Loran Scholarship Loran The Loran Scholarship provides financial assistance to rising and young youngsters. Canadians who exhibit the courage of their character and a dedication to serving in their communities. It also challenges them to realize their potential as leaders. It is offered every year to an undergraduate student who is entering their first year of any faculty.
CanadianMerit Scholarship Foundation. Renewable in the second, third, and fourth year in the University of Calgary, provided recipients have the minimum GPA in the range of 3.30 throughout 30.00 units during the previous winter and fall terms. The recipients must reside in a university residence for a minimum of two years, and exhibit evidence of character, leadership, and service, as defined through CanadianMerit Scholarship Foundation.
The award is valued at up to $100,000 Up to $100,000, the Loran Award includes:
- Learn at one of the 25 partner universities and receive an annual living stipend of $10,000 and a tuition waiver
- A total of $10,000 will be used to fund three summer internships in the fields of enterprise, public policy, or community development
- The combination of scholars and mentors provides them with challenges and introduces their new community.
- An exploration of orientation through Algonquin Park
- The annual retreat and the scholar gatherings
- An opportunity to be part of an expansive community of people who are working towards a better world and the world
Requirements for the Scholarship
The process of selecting the Loran Scholar is exceptional in the way it focuses on a teenager’s personality. We believe that courage, integrity, determination, grit, and individual independence are more reliable potential indicators than traditional academic measures.

This includes mentoring, financial aid for summer internships, and membership in an extensive network of past and current students. They are available in 25 of our partner institutions; they consider their Loran Award at $100,000 over four years.
Number of Scholarships Available
Every year, the institution provides the possibility of up to the Loran Awards. We offer as many as 118 finalist awards and provincial and regional awards ($5,000 or $2,000 respectively) to promising stars.
Eligibility for the Scholarship
This opportunity is available to all Canadian secondary school pupils who
- They are in their last year of full-time, uninterrupted studies in high school.
- A minimum total mean of 85%.
- You can hold Canadians the right to citizenship, permanent residency, or permanent status.
- Are at or above 16 years of age on September 1st of the following year.
- Students who have graduated in 2021 and are currently in the middle of an absence year are qualified to apply.

What Counts as an Official Transcript?
The university will accept transcripts or non-official summaries of marks provided by your school or the Ministry of Education. To take Cegep students, we need school academic records that show the R score and the grades. Cegep students can access and print these documents from Omnivox. We do not accept report cards.
Who can write my Reference Letter, and How Do I submit it?
You should request a reference letter from a teacher or a member of the community, or anyone else acquainted with your work. The person writing the reference is not necessarily a member of your family or an acquaintance.
After your application is made, your reference writer will receive a reference request email from [email protected] The email will include an online link that allows your reference writer to view your application and fill out the online reference application (250 max. words).
Candidates are advised to complete the online reference form before the deadline for applications.
When Will I Be Notified About the Status of My Application?
After your application is completed, you will be sent an email confirmation. After that, only those who were who are selected as semi-finalists will be notified about how their applications are being processed.
Candidates who are selected as semi-finalists are notified at least two weeks before the date of their discussion. Thus, if they are chosen as semi-finalists will be invited to participate in interviews via videoconference. The interviews provide the opportunity for semi-finalists with one another to meet the local leaders that serve as interviewers and gain valuable experience during interviews.
Following semi-final interviews, Our committees invite semi-finalists who are outstanding to participate in national discussions. These will take place from February 10-13, 2022. Our committees also offer provincial and territorial awards and honor citations to semi-finalists who stand out in semi-final regional competitions.
